A man rescued from the Assiniboine River is in hospital

The Winnipeg Fire Department says one person is in hospital after being pulled from the Assiniboine River Sunday evening.

At approximately 5:26 p.m., WFPS responded to reports of someone in the creek near the Donald Street Bridge.

When crews arrived, they found the man floating in the current and being pulled toward the Red River.

WFPS was able to quickly rescue them and bring them to shore before they were taken to the hospital in critical condition.

According to the rescuers, it is not yet known how the person fell into the river and how long he was there.

Last year, WFPS responded to about 150 water rescue calls.
