Connect Care makes care for Albertans easier, says AHS

Calgarians who live in or visit Alberta Health Services (AHS)'s various seniors, outpatient, home and continuing care facilities may notice a difference in care starting this week.

Over the weekend, more than 10,600 additional staff and physicians at AHS and AHS partner locations joined their colleagues in using Connect Care.

“Having a common clinical information system at AHS means patients don't have to repeat their health histories as often, and care teams can access complex histories and medication lists,” said Dr. Peter Jamieson, vice president of quality and interim chief medical officer. officer.

AHS began the transition to Connect Care in November 2019, and when it is complete in the fall of 2024, approximately 125,000 employees and physicians will use it.

“Connect Care's scale makes it one of the largest clinical system implementations in the world,” said Sean Chilton, AHS interim vice president and chief operating officer for clinical operations and EMS.

When Connect Care is available, Albertans can access their online patient portal through MyAHS Connect.

“Each Connect Care launch brings together front-line healthcare workers, physicians and patients to provide healthcare teams with access to a patient's complete health history, consistent information about best practices and resources, while improving healthcare efficiency. information is private and secure,” said AHS President and CEO Afana Mentselopoulos.

Through the portal, residents can manage appointments, view test results, and view medication lists.

“AHS has taken the lead in Canada with Connect Care as the only health authority in the country with a province-wide clinical information system,” AHS said in a statement.

“Connect Care gives healthcare providers additional tools to support their patients at nearly half the cost per user of the systems previously used by AHS.”
