The Calgary Shaw outage was caused by an attempted copper wire theft

Some Shaw's customers in north and northeast Calgary experienced service outages Monday morning after an attempted copper wire theft.

In an update Monday, the company said the outage affected Internet, TV and home phone services.

“Crews determined that the outage was due to a fiber cut caused by vandalism and copper wire theft,” Shaw said in a service update.

The problem was discovered around 4:20 a.m. Monday.

The company said repairs to the fiber network could take eight to 12 hours, but if the damage is extensive, it could take longer to fully restore services.

Shaw customers can check their accounts on the My Shaw website or My Shaw app and look for an alert banner to determine if services are affected by the outage.
