Parts of southern Alberta are under a rainfall warning

Rain warnings have been issued for the eastern half of southern Alberta, including Rocky View Co., Medicine Hat and the Red Deer area, making travel difficult.

Rain will begin this afternoon and continue through Tuesday night. The total amount of precipitation may be 50-70 mm. Some areas in eastern Alberta could see 80 mm or more.

According to the Canadian Meteorological Agency, heavy downpours could cause flash flooding and waterlogged roads in the warning areas.

Localized flooding is possible in low-lying areas.

With the exception of Calgary getting 15 to 25 mm of rain, the rain will taper off over the next two days through Wednesday.
