Calgary International Airport has set a record year in 2023

The Calgary Airport Authority celebrated a banner year in its 2023 annual report, released on May 1, 2024 at its annual general meeting.

The report highlights the airport's remarkable recovery from the pandemic and YYC's strategic efforts to strengthen Calgary International Airport as North America's leading connectivity hub.

Record growth marks a year of renewal

“2023 was a year of extraordinary growth and revitalization,” he said Chris Dinsdale, President and CEO of the Calgary Airport Authority.

“We have witnessed growth in passenger numbers, established new flight partnerships and expanded non-stop route offerings from YYC.”

“Not only have we recovered from the impact of the pandemic, but we are stronger and better positioned than ever before in 2019.”

Highlights of 2023: milestones achieved

  • Passenger traffic at Calgary International Airport YYC is projected to reach a staggering 18.5 million in 2023. This surpassed the previous record of 18 million set in 2019.
  • Summer 2023 was the airport's busiest season on record, with July and August receiving 1.95 million and 1.97 million passengers respectively.
  • Agency revenue beat expectations by 10% and grew 19.6% over 2022 to total $497 million.
  • YYC welcomed new carriers such as Porter Airlines to increase passenger choice and access to popular destinations. The airport now has more than 90 non-stop connections worldwide.

Investment in the future

In addition to celebrating past achievements, the authorities set their vision for the future. The West Runway Rehabilitation Project is a testament to this commitment.

The plan will ensure a smooth and efficient travel experience for passengers for years to come. The PCL partnership guarantees that the project will be completed by the end of 2025.
