The eastbound gravel highway is closed after a single vehicle crash

A portion of Stoney Trail was closed Wednesday morning after a one-vehicle accident.

According to Calgary police, the collision happened around 2:40 a.m

Police believe a 2012 silver Ford Focus driven by a 36-year-old man was eastbound on Stoney Trail NE when it veered off the road to the right and struck a support beam.

The vehicle began to spin before coming to rest on the shoulder of Stoney Trail NE

The driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

By 6 a.m., all eastbound traffic was detoured on North Harvest Hills Boulevard

The scene was cleared by 9 am.

Police do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor, but excessive speed is being investigated as a possible factor.
