A rainfall warning has been issued for Montreal in southern Quebec

Quebecers should expect a wet start to their long weekend plans as southern areas of the province are expected to experience heavy rain on Thursday.

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for the region, including the greater Montreal area. Lanaudier, the Laurentians, and areas as far north as the Saguenay.

Between 10 and 25 millimeters of rain is expected throughout the day, with scattered showers, and some showers last night.

Flooding is expected in low-lying areas. The ground is saturated after recent rains and is unlikely to absorb much of the water, the weather service explained.

This latest rain comes a week after severe thunderstorms hit the area, leaving tens of thousands without power and flooding the streets of downtown Montreal.

Recent heavy rain also contributed to a landslide that destroyed one home and damaged another in Saguenay earlier this month.
