Jake Ottinger helped the Stars beat the Jets 2-0

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Dallas netminder Jake Ottinger stopped 27 shots to record his first shutout of the season, leading the Stars to a 2-0 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night.

“It's a shorthanded goal,” Oettinger said, four days after surrendering six goals to Calgary. “You feel like you're at rock bottom, and then you shut down after a few days. So I'm going to enjoy tonight and then I don't know what's in store for me.”

Forwards Tyler Seguin and Joe Pavelski scored for Dallas.

“It was a good bounce-back game and he (Oettinger) started, too,” Pavelski said. “He was our best player tonight. He made many important saves. Both goalkeepers made good saves.”

Seguin left the game late in the third period. He deflected a pass from Mason Marchment, who flipped the puck over fallen defenseman Nate Schmidt and put the puck into the empty side of the net.

Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck stopped 19 of 21 shots for Winnipeg, snapping a four-game winning streak. It was Winnipeg's second straight loss.

“Oettinger made a lot of good saves and they blocked a lot of good shots,” Jets center Mark Scheifele said. “I thought we played well.

“Oettinger made a lot of big saves tonight, but so did (Hellbeck). He made a lot of important saves that kept us out and kept it close. So both goalkeepers played well, we just had to find a way to score.”

The Stars eliminated two critical two-man short violations. The second was defending a 1-0 lead 44 seconds into the third period.

“Yeah, it was a game-changer on both ends,” Oettinger said. “We have some guys who take pride in those situations and you don't see them on the NHL, but it takes that to win – and we have a lot of guys like that.”

The Stars opened the scoring with a contested goal midway through the second period. Pavelski was singled into the empty side of the goal by forward Rupp Hintz and scored. The Jets had a goalie interference as Pavelski hit Hellebuyck in the faceoff with his stick before scoring. Pavelski said he didn't know the stick had hit Hellebuyck until he saw the replay.

The Jets lost the challenge and were penalized for delay of game.

The Stars scored after killing a short two-man penalty with 68 seconds left.

“They're four-point games and you're on the road and this team played well,” Stars coach Peter DeBoer said. “Everybody knows what happened tonight, and I thought we deserved to win.”
