A fire at a Montreal building is under investigation by the fire department.

The Montreal Police Department (SPVM) fire team is investigating a “suspicious” building fire in the Notre-Dame-de-Grace (NDG) neighborhood on Sunday morning.

According to the SPVM, a patrol officer noticed smoke coming from a vacant building at the corner of Cote St. Luc Road and Robert Burns Road around 4:30 a.m.

The Montreal Fire Department (SIM) responded to the three-story building shortly after 5 a.m. after the first alarm.

The building was vacant and included commercial and two residential floors above.

SIM said there were no casualties.

Firefighters found what they believe may have been arson after discovering multiple fires in various parts of the building, police said.

Investigators can analyze the scene once it is safe.

The building was seriously damaged.
