Students planning a pro-Palestinian camp at the University of Manitoba

University of Manitoba students plan to camp next week in solidarity with the Palestinians.

In a statement, the university said it was aware of plans to set up a protest camp on its Fort Harry campus in Winnipeg on May 7-9.

A group called Students for Justice in Palestine says on social media that the camp is open daily from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. and is for students only.

Among the group's demands is a call for the University of Manitoba to boycott Israeli institutions it deems “involved in human rights abuses.”

The university says it supports the right to assemble and protest, and warns that any activity that violates laws, threatens physical safety or interferes with school business will not be tolerated.

Similar camps have been established in recent days on university campuses in Canada and the United States in response to the Israel-Hamas war.
