A Montreal resident has been accused of making death threats against Trudeau

RCMP have charged a 30-year-old Montreal man after threatening to kill Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in a social media post.

Paul Clarisso was charged with threatening the Prime Minister after making a statement on his X account (formerly Twitter).

The RCMP takes seriously any threats that may affect a person's sense of safety. Statements of violence are not allowed, RCMP said in a statement. Offenders may face criminal charges that include serious penalties.

The force said on Jan. 31 that the charges were laid after a brief investigation by the RCMP's Integrated National Security Enforcement Team.

Clarisso will appear in a Montreal court on Wednesday to face the charges.
