A man has been shot dead in the parking lot of a crowded mall in Montreal's West Island.

A 42-year-old man was shot and killed in the parking lot of a crowded mall in Montreal's West Island on Tuesday evening.

Montreal police said they received several 911 calls about shots fired in Dollar-de-Ormeaux just before 6 p.m.

Paramedics and police found the man in the parking lot of Galeries des Sources near the intersection of boulevards Des Sources and Brunswick.

Police say the man was shot at least once in the upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No arrests have been made, but police say the suspect or suspects fled the scene in a vehicle.

At the time of the shooting, several cars and passers-by were inside the mall, which houses a gym and restaurants.

A large perimeter was established to allow forensic experts to analyze the crime scene. Investigators also reviewed CCTV footage.

The man's death is Montreal's fifth homicide of 2024, according to police.
