Significant snow on the road in Toronto, GTA. Here's when it's coming

Torontonians may need to get out the snow shovels ahead of Family Day, with the first significant snowfall of the month expected to hit the city this week.

A few waves are possible on Wednesday, but Thursday will be a different story when a large system moves in that could affect afternoon and evening commutes.

CityNews 680 Meteorologist Jill Taylor says residents should be prepared for heavy, wet snow to fall around 11 a.m. She's calling for 5 to 7 cm, up to 15 cm for Toronto and the west side of the GTA. possible for northern and eastern areas.

“It comes together quickly,” says Taylor. “All the snow that didn't fall in January will seem to fall in one day tomorrow.”

Along with the snow this week, colder air will intensify, with wind chills expected to mean in the negative twenties by early Wednesday with high temperatures guaranteed to reach 0C during the day.

As snow falls on Thursday, the temperature will rise to 1 degree. Daytime highs on Friday will be near freezing.

Looking ahead to the Family Day weekend, a slightly warmer Saturday is expected (-4°C) followed by a daytime high of 0C on Sunday with a high of 3°C and mostly sunny skies. Monday off.

“It can be a bit hectic on weekends, at least on Saturday and Sunday,” says Taylor. “Then it will be warm on Monday.”
