Mountie is accused of working abroad in a Calgary court

An Alberta RCMP officer is set to appear in a Calgary courtroom accused of accessing unclassified RCMP records on behalf of a foreigner.

On February 10, RCMP Federal Police Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) in Calgary arrested Constable Eli Ndatuje and charged him with three counts of breach of trust – section 122, unauthorized use of a computer – section 342.1(1) (a). ) and breach of confidence in relation to protected information – section 18(1).

The RCMP did not disclose what type of documents were accessed or their security classification. May refer to non-top secret secret, confidential or protected documents.

The RCMP said they took steps after learning of the breach to minimize any further unauthorized disclosure and to keep the public safe.

“The RCMP takes threats to the safety of Canadians very seriously and would like to assure everyone that our top priority is always the safety and protection of the public,” they said.

Const. The RCMP accused Ndatuje of working on behalf of the Republic of Rwanda.

“The RCMP is committed to combating foreign actor interference at all levels and is actively using all tools at its disposal. Foreign interference comes in many forms and it is critical that all organizations are aware of potential harm at any level,” the RCMP said.

“The RCMP is open to any type of intervention, whether internal or external, and this is a good example of the efforts being made.”

RCMP said Const. Ndatuje was due in Calgary provincial court on March 11.
