Winnipeggers are invited to discuss the new Winnipeg Transit route network

As Winnipeg continues to grow and the number of people using transit increases, the need for a new route network is necessary.

The project team at Winnipeg Transit is in the final stages of designing its new route network and is excited to share those plans with the public.

“We now have more and more routes with the city. They are long and have a lot of turns. Many of them go back and forth between the outer areas with the most traffic and the city center. This makes it difficult to stay on schedule. , and it reduces the reliability of the service, “- said the City of Winnipeg in a press release.

The proposed network looks like a grid, with the Primary Transit Network acting as a backbone, and feeder routes connecting riders to the backbone, or in other words, helping riders travel short distances within the community.

“We heard from Winnipeggers that they want more frequent, reliable, efficient and accessible transit,” said Mayor Scott Gillingham. “The launch of the initial transit network is the first big step we take in the framework of the Master Plan. This will help us transform and improve bus service in Winnipeg.”

Winnipeggers interested in learning more about the proposed route network can watch an introductory video, attend a private public information event or visit the project page at winnipeg.ca/primarytransitnetwork.

The project team will finalize the design and present the proposed network to council in June.
