Two people and two cats were rescued from a Toronto apartment fire

Two people and two cats were rescued from a two-alarm fire at a downtown low-rise early Wednesday morning.

According to Toronto Fire, the fire broke out at a building on Sherborne Street near Carlton Street around midnight.

A ladder rescue began after crews arrived on the scene and two people and two cats in the upper unit were removed from the building, Toronto Fire confirmed to CP24. No one was injured, and TTC buses were dispatched to evacuate the building's occupants.

It is believed that the fire started in the living room of one of the units.

Crews are expected to be on scene for the next several hours to continue to control the fire.
