Flames Foundation, APPLE Schools Team Up

The Flames Foundation has partnered with APPLE Schools to donate $750,000 to support student health in southern Alberta. To celebrate this partnership, Calgary Flames players will visit two Calgary schools on Wednesday, February 14th to promote heart-healthy youth.

APPLE (Healthy Living for All) Schools, a charity dedicated to promoting health and wellness in schools, is teaming up with the Flames Foundation to expand its vision and reach into the school community in southern Alberta.

With support from the Flames Foundation, APPLE Schools could include four new schools in southern Alberta. This includes two schools in Medicine Hat, Ross Glen Elementary and Vincent Massey School, as well as Rundle School and Douglas Harkness School in Calgary. This four-year partnership will fund the addition of a school health facilitator at each school, as well as APPLE Schools' expertise and mentoring, resources, and the development of a school-specific action plan to shape and build a culture of health unique to each school community.

“Our partnership with the Calgary Flames Foundation is a testament to their commitment to making a meaningful difference in the school community,” said Jenn Flynn, Executive Director of APPLE Schools. “Their generous donations and joint support contribute significantly to the expansion of our knowledge. Initiatives that reach even more students, teachers and families across the province.”

The collaboration between the two organizations will improve the implementation of comprehensive school health programs that empower students, teachers and parents to make healthy choices. These initiatives promote lifelong well-being with an emphasis on nutrition, physical activity and self-awareness.

For more than 15 years, APPLE Schools has demonstrated a research-based model of school health, dedicated to improving the well-being of Canadian students. Each year, more than 33,000 students benefit from its support to adopt lifelong healthy habits and improve their mental health. HundrED, a global education innovation organization based in Helsinki, recently honored APPLE Schools as one of the top 100 global innovators based on their impact and scale in the education landscape.
