Andrew Mangiapan was named as King Clancy's nominee

The Flames are proud to announce Andrew Mangiapane as the club's nominee for the 2024 King Clancy Memorial Trophy. The King Clancy Memorial Trophy is an annual award given to a player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a significant humanitarian contribution to their community.

“Congratulations to Andrew on being nominated for this award,” said Flames captain Mikael Backlund, the proud recipient of the 2023 King Clancy Memorial Cup. “Andrew's commitment to our community is truly inspiring and he is making a real difference in the lives of young people in Calgary.”

In his seven seasons with the Flames, Mangiapan has made outstanding contributions to both the team and the Calgary community. While Mangiapane has always been eager to participate in team social events, this season he decided he wanted to do more. Along with his fiancee Claudia, Andrew started Mange's Breadsticks, a youth community hockey program in the Ogden community based out of Calgary Youth Centres. With the invaluable support of Mangiapane's partners, the Flames Foundation and the Calgary Italian Open, they have donated the funds needed to operate Mange's Breadsticks at the youth center this season.

“Hockey has given me and my family so much and I think this is a great opportunity for me to give back to the city of Calgary,” Mangiapana said. “Growing up I was told I was too small and I would never make it. I've always been a loser, and these kids are underdogs, so I want to give them a good chance to learn how to play hockey. They had never owned equipment or played on a team, and I wanted to help them and be an example in a game that has given me so much.”
