Bombers legend Ken Ploen has died at the age of 88

A legendary dual threat for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the 1950s and 60s, who won four Gray Cups with the team.

Ken Ploen has died at the age of 88, the team announced Tuesday.

“Ken Ploen has been the face of the Blue Bombers for years and then became a part of the community after his playing days,” said Wade Miller, Bombers President and CEO.

“The WFC extends our deepest condolences to Ploen's family and to his many friends and family in Winnipeg, as well as across Canada and the United States.”

Ploen joined the Bombers in 1957 and played 11 years as a defender and defender.

He was named an All-Star twice as a quarterback and once as a quarterback.

He also led the Bombers to four Gray Cups in 1958, 1959, 1961 and 1962, winning six appearances.

After retiring in 1967, he was inducted into the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame in 1975, the Winnipeg FC Hall of Fame in 1984 and the Bombers' Ring of Honor in 2016.
