CCM Hockey Seeks New Ownership After Potential Sale Options: Report

Popular hockey equipment maker CCM is up for sale again, The Globe and Mail reports, with Birch Hill Equity Partners reportedly looking to sell it.

More than 200 employees will still work at CCM's headquarters near Highway 40 in Montreal. They moved to that location in February.

The company was previously located a few miles away at 3400 Raymond-Lasnier Street in St.Laurent, where at one time more than 500 people worked.

However, CCM has changed ownership several times in recent years.

Reebok bought it in 2004 for $400 million, then Adidas took over and sold the company back to Birch Hill Equity Partners in 2017 for $110 million. Since then, they've doubled revenue and grown revenue – now reportedly over $75 million a year.

Founded in 1899, CCM was originally called Canada Cycle & Motor Company Limited.

In 1905, the company decided to produce hockey skates, and since then it has continued to dominate the market.

CCM is one of the two leading hockey equipment manufacturers.

The hockey company supplies sticks, skates and helmets to nearly 40 percent of NHL players, along with the stars of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL).

The company's main rival is Bauer, which employs nearly 40 percent of NHL players using its equipment.

CityNews has reached out to CCM for comment but has yet to hear back.
