Manitoba weather: snow in some parts of the province

Although spring may be here, parts of Manitoba are expecting a blast of wintry weather this week.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a snow warning for a number of communities Wednesday, including Flin Flon, Paz and Thompson.

According to the weather agency, 15 to 30 centimeters (cm) of snow is expected in the next two days, in addition to the snow that fell on Tuesday night. Snow will taper off Wednesday night; however, it will continue through Thursday before tapering off on Friday.

The ECCC also said the area south of Gillam and north of Aral Lake could see more than 10 cm of snow beginning Thursday.

Residents are being warned that snowy weather has the potential to reduce visibility and make driving on highways, roads and footpaths difficult. ECCC recommends that you consider postponing non-essential travel.

Total amount of precipitation

The ECCC also released the rainfall totals for the last 48 hours.

Swan River received the heaviest rainfall at 43.3 millimeters (mm), while the Pipe Lake area received 35.1 mm and Cartwright 32.8 mm, according to the weather agency.

Garland received 31 mm, Winnipeg 25 mm, Brandon 24 mm and Portage la Prairie 19 mm.
