Ponoka's Maddison Pearman will compete at the World Championships in Calgary

Ponoka's Maddison Pearman has been named to represent Canada at the ISU World Speed ​​Skating Championships in Calgary.

He will be one of 19 Canadian long track athletes competing on home ice at the Calgary Olympic Oval from February 15-18.

Pearman will compete in the individual 1000m, but will compete in the team sprint with Laurent Dubreuil, Anders Johnson, Ivany Blondin and Karolina Hiller.

Canada has had plenty of success in six world championships this season, with 23 medals, including five gold, 11 silver and seven bronze.

Fans interested in attending can purchase tickets for as little as $10 and the races will be broadcast live on CBC Sports. There will also be a telecast on CBC on Saturday and Sunday.
