Opponents of the Longueuil deer hunt tell city councilors that killing the animals is the wrong way to do it

Deer culling opponents in Longueuil spoke out against a plan to limit the number of animals at Michel Chartrand Park at Tuesday night's city council meeting.

After years of back-and-forth in the courts, a judge may resume the trial in December. This is expected to happen in the fall with certified crossbow hunters. Opponents say culling and sterilizing is the wrong decision.

“These are animals, they live in their habitat, they have a right to be there. They value their lives and want to live. Citizens love them, they frequent the park to spend time with them, you know, and they live a decent life,” said resident Sandra Gaydos.

The city estimates there are about 117 deer in the park, and there should be about 20 of them.
