Kyle Connor scored twice as the Jets beat the Kraken 4-3 to move into second place in the Central Division.

Kyle Connor scored twice and Tyler Toffoli broke a third-period tie to lead the Winnipeg Jets to a key 4-3 victory on Tuesday night.

The win earned the Jets second place in the Central Division and home-ice advantage in their first-round playoff series with the Colorado Avalanche.

“Obviously, that's what we wanted to do tonight,” said Nikolai Ehlers, who had a goal and an assist. “It wasn't pretty the whole way, but we got it done and that's what matters.”

Winnipeg (51-24-6) also extended its winning streak to seven in front of its eighth sellout crowd of the season at the Canada Life Centre.

Toffoli took a pass from Ehlers on the power play and put a rebound past Seattle goaltender Philipp Grubauer with 8:20 left in the third period.

“It's exciting to pull it off in this game,” Connor said of securing home-ice advantage. “I thought we went with it, you know, ups and downs in the game.”

Connor's pair of markers extended his point streak to eight games, including four goals and eight assists.

“I see him skating well on both ends of the ice. He really is,” Jets coach Rick Bowness said of Connor. “It shows that he was engaged in the game. There were some great checks.”

Mark Scheifele and Josh Morrissey each had an assist.

Connor Hellebuyck made 20 saves for the Jets, who close out the regular season Thursday at home against the Vancouver Canucks.

Yanni Gourde had a goal and an assist, while Thomas Tatar and Ty Cartier also scored for the Kraken (33-35-13).

“I think it doesn't matter who we play, we have to bring it every night,” Cartier said. “It's a good team here and it was a good effort by us.”

Grubauer stopped 20 shots for Seattle, which lost its fourth straight game and ended its season without the playoffs Thursday against the Wild.

“Our whole team fought hard tonight,” Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. “No matter what, we are in a position to come out of a two-goal deficit and level ourselves.

“We're going to take a careless penalty, that's the difference in the game of hockey. We did a really good job in the first minute and the killing 50, but they found space inside and scored the game-winner.”

Jets veteran forward Nino Niederreiter is back on the ice after missing the last five games because of a cut on his skate that tore his Achilles tendon.

Winnipeg forward Morgan Barron left the game in the first period and did not return with a lower-body injury. Bowness said he will be given more credit.
