Toronto Rail Line Protest: At Least 4 Arrested

Several people were arrested at a pro-Palestinian rally in the city's west side that blocked rail lines for several hours on Tuesday.

Demonstrators said they planned to stand at the Junction on Osler Street and Pelham Avenue at 3:00 p.m. and remain there for several hours.

Toronto police estimated there were 100 to 120 demonstrators at the scene. Just before 7:30 p.m., officers began arresting demonstrators as they tried to clear the railroad tracks.

According to the police, four people were arrested. By 9:00 p.m., the roads had reopened as demonstrators cleared the area.

Metrolinx said the demonstration did not disrupt GO train and UP Express service. In a brief statement, a CP Rail spokesman said it was aware of the protest and was in contact with local authorities.
