Toronto weather: Environment Canada issues spring storm warning

According to Environment Canada, a spring storm is expected to hit the Toronto area this week, bringing strong winds and up to 50 millimeters of rain.

In a special weather statement, the National Weather Service said a low temperature in Colorado on Tuesday is expected to affect the region, bringing at times heavy rain and continuing into Wednesday.

“More rain and more wind on Wednesday. Then enough cold air will return to the back of the system to transition to rain and wet snow Wednesday night,” CP24 Meteorologist Bill Coulter said Monday.

“Wet snow and flurries to last into early Thursday.”

Winds from the east of 70 km/h will blow Tuesday evening, Environment Canada said, but by Wednesday, 25 to 50 millimeters of rain is expected to fall later that evening.

The agency also noted that power outages are possible.

Environment Canada said late Monday that 5 to 15 centimeters of snow could fall across eastern Ontario, including the Toronto area, on Wednesday and Thursday.

Coulter added that temperatures will begin to recover on Friday with the possibility of rain, and clear and warm weather is expected through the weekend and most of next week.
