How the Winnipeg Jets shut down Nathan MacKinnon this season

Frank Seravalli is joined by John Goyens to discuss how the Winnipeg Jets were shut out in the last episode of the Colorado Avalanche this season. Daily Faceoff Live.

Frank Seravalli: John, look, this is an interesting story for the Winnipeg Jets. They were the team many counted on, and they rallied in the final two weeks of the season and overcame what has been a significant advantage for the Colorado Avalanche this season with their home record. And the Jets are looking for home-ice advantage with Winnipeg's excuses. So when you look at the season series and how even it's been, it's been great, the Jets have a 3-0 advantage on the scoreboard with a 7-0 weekend win and a significant advantage.

How did the Jets beat Colorado, the number one ranked team in the league, by such a big margin (17-4)?

John Goyens: Team, team, team. Five guys are on the same page every shift. This is a team that hasn't been counted on in the last few years, their D-core has gone from a D-core everyone wants to a D-core that loses a player every year. And then the change of captain and all that stuff. Now you see a team playing such a complete team game and we can go along with each other while looking at other stats.

That's an insane stat like 17 goals to four for Colorado, they're being outscored 12-3 at 5-5, the odd man out in Winnipeg's favor, and the power play and penalty kill are also heavily in Winnipeg's favor. So how are they doing it? It's what Colorado calls “cheating,” as if all of Colorado's rushes are all or nothing so the Jets can take advantage of them.
