Several people were injured Friday after a bus traveling from Montreal to New York City collided with a car.

New York State Police said in a news release that they are investigating the crash on Interstate 87 in Lake George, about 160 miles south of Montreal.

According to the representative of the company, the bus involved in the accident belongs to the FlixBus company.

In a statement, Mike Ogulnik said the bus was traveling from Montreal to Manhattan when it crashed around 1 p.m.

There is no additional information at this time, he said hours after the accident, and authorities are conducting a full investigation.

12 ambulances were called

Warren County spokesman Don Lehman told CBC News the 11 uninjured passengers are at the Lake George fire station and French interpreters are on site as the county helps them in any way they can, such as finding food or shelter. hotel room.

If necessary, a shelter can also be installed, he said.

According to him, 12 ambulances from eight rescue squads were called to the scene.

He said the air temperature was around -6 degrees and the roads appeared dry and clear during the day, but police were still investigating to determine the cause of the accident.

Interstate 87 southbound is closed between exits 23 and 22 and is expected to be closed for an extended period of time, police said in a news release.

New York Gov. Cathy Hochul “Drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes,” X said earlier on Twitter.

I-87 runs from the Canadian border to New York City and serves as the most direct transportation route.
