Toronto doctors choose to play ER on screen in hopes of becoming movie stars

Some doctors in Toronto are prescribing themselves a dose of Hollywood.

Indi Saluja is one of those doctors. Since 2016, he has been appointed as a medical worker for about ten productions.

“Both paths are very difficult, and I've learned that there are no shortcuts in acting, you have to put in the time and work to make it,” Saluja told Now Toronto.

Recently, Saluya played the lead role Aisha stands up Jay Sharma, a yogi-like smoke master, helps the protagonist in his journey with depression.

He also played the main role Guys, Umbrella Academy, Quebeciteand Good Sam.

When Saluja is not acting, she is in the emergency room as a real doctor.

“I don't know which one is my side job. It's hard to balance all that, but you've got to pay the bills until you get really big in Canada, and in the meantime, you've got to hustle,” he said.

Janet McMordy is another doctor in Toronto who decided to act as an actor.

He told Now Toronto that he juggled a full-time schedule as a doctor by working two 48-hour days a week and spending the rest of the time auditioning or on set.

McCordy hosts the Second Act Actors podcast, which dives into the lives of doctors and other professionals who play their jobs or other roles on screen.

While not all of Toronto's doctors want to be on the movie screen and represent official agencies, there seems to be another rise in doctors posting TikTok skits.

Dr. Kyle is a chiropractor who posts sports medicine videos, showing people different exercises to relieve muscle tension and what he does specifically to treat his patients.

Plus, University Health Network doctors share weight loss tips, an insider's look at various organ transplants, and even cancer tips for an LGBTQ+ audience for anyone watching Tik Tok.

Saluja has some advice for those who want to join a double life.

“No matter what you're doing, whether it's art or science, one thing is that you can't quit,” Salujah said.
