Great pitching leads the Okanagan College Coyotes to a 3-1 weekend against Calgary

It was another successful weekend for the Okanagan College Coyotes baseball team as they went 3-1 in four games against the defending champions, the University of Calgary Dinos.

Three weeks of Canadian College Baseball Conference (CCBC) action kicked off Friday night (April 12) when the Coyotes shut out the Dinos 8-0.

Corey Lawson was terrific on the mound, throwing seven innings and striking out 10 to get the win. He led the league with three wins.

Offensively, third baseman Coleman Kawaguchi was 4-4 in the game with an RBI, a walk and two runs scored. He was one of three Coyotes with a multi-hit game.

The two teams played a doubleheader on Saturday where the Coyotes went on to win the first game 4-0.

Right-hander Teagan Ribbink picked up his second win of the season after tossing eight innings, striking out nine and allowing just four hits. The outing lowered his ERA to 1.14. He also leads CCBC with 30 hits.

Kawaguchi drove in two more runs in the game as he went 1-2 with a walk.

In the third game of the weekend, the Coyotes scored 10 runs in the first four innings en route to an 11-7 victory. Center fielder Adrian Orioli led the offense going 4-4 ​​with a double, triple, two RBIs and two runs scored. Jack Swinton also went 3-5 at the plate.

Despite allowing seven runs over three innings, Anthony Wislobocki picked up the win for the Coyotes. Corbin Mossop came on in relief and pitched six innings.

The Coyotes, who started the weekend 3-0, lost 6-2 on Sunday.

Coming off a 3-1 weekend, the Coyotes are now 8-4 on the season, second in the CCBC standings behind the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack.

This coming weekend, Okanagan College will close out 14 straight home games to start the season. On Friday, April 19, they will host the University of the Fraser Valley in a doubleheader at Elks Stadium at 4:00pm and 7:00pm. Both teams will have the day off on Saturday and finish the weekend with two more games on Sunday, April 21. Down in Chilliwack. Game time is 12.00 and 15.00
