Three teenage hockey players arrested in Manitoba hazing incidents

Three 17-year-old male hockey players were arrested on April 15, 2024 in connection with hazing incidents reported to police on February 20, 2024. Five new players in their team, aged 15 and 16, took part in the events. .

A criminal case was initiated against the two arrested teenagers Sexual assault with a weapon, Sexual assaultand Strong arrest. A third teenager has been charged Sexual assault and Attack.

The hazing incidents took place on two separate occasions, the first in November 2023 and the second in January 2024. Both incidents took place at a Winnipeg hotel while the Pembina Valley High School hockey team was in town for tournaments.

“We have been working closely with the schools, the Prairie Spirit School Division and the coaches to determine what happened and move forward with the investigation,” said Tara Seale, Manitoba RCMP media relations officer. He went on to add: “This type of behavior – violent and offensive in nature – is unacceptable and the three young men involved will be held criminally responsible.”

The three suspects have since been released with a court date scheduled for June 10, 2024 in Winnipeg.
