Toronto teenagers hit stolen car: police

Police say a group of teenagers are facing charges after they tried to steal a car in a Markham parking lot, but crashed into another car minutes later.

The incident happened around 2 a.m. on April 6 in a parking lot in the area of Yonge Street and Glen Cameron Road.

In a news release issued Tuesday, police said the woman was walking to her car when the suspect approached her, allowing the second suspect to get into her car and pull her over.

“The victim struggled with the suspect and her husband joined in to help,” the police report said.

“As they attempted to flee in the victim's vehicle, the suspects crashed into another vehicle in the parking lot.”

According to the police, the suspects immediately ran to the car driven by the third suspect. All three suspects were wearing masks at the time of the incident, police said.

A subsequent investigation revealed the suspects were driving a vehicle stolen in the Peel area on April 1, police said.

According to investigators, this car had three suspects inside on April 13. The suspects were taken into custody after officers conducted a traffic stop and a “short foot chase,” according to police.

During the search, a loaded handgun with an extended barrel was found and the stolen vehicle was seized, police said.

The three suspects, ages 16, 17 and 18, were charged with conspiracy to commit an indictable offense, willful concealment, possession of a loaded, restricted firearm and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, police said.
