The Caribbean Cultural Parade will return to Montreal in 2024

The Caribbean Cultural Parade returns to Montreal for its 50th anniversary this summer after being canceled last year.

The Caribbean Coalition Network of Montreal (CCNM), a group of local communities representing seven different Caribbean islands, will be responsible for this year's carnival parade and other festivities to celebrate Caribbean culture.

It is called Karimas Festival 2024 and is scheduled to begin on June 9 with four events in four weeks. There will be the Miss Carimas beauty pageant, the Petit Carimas Junior Carnival, a children's parade, as well as the main parade on July 6, the Carimas Grand Carnaval.

After the parade, there will be a family chill out in the park with music, games and food vendors called Carimas Sizzle.

Events and parade locations are still being determined.

The 2024 Carimas Festival will be followed by the Carifiesta Parade organized by the Caribbean Cultural Festivals Association. The Caribbean parade was canceled last year because the city of Montreal refused to allocate nearly $30,000 to the organizers.

This year, CCNM received a $30,000 grant from the City of Montreal to host the festival, but the organization also launched a fundraising campaign to raise another $75,000 to help cover the cost of costumes and floats, as well as support. youth engagement, access and public relations.
