January TTC subway attack: Suspect identified

Police have identified a suspect in the January attack on a 19-year-old man on a TTC subway train.

Officials say it happened on the evening of Jan. 14 on a westbound Line 2 train.

The suspect hit the 19-year-old man from behind with an unknown wooden object as he approached the Metro Pape metro station. Police said they did not know each other.

Toronto police said passengers at the station helped the victim off the train while the suspect remained on board. Police did not release the extent of his injuries.

Police released photos of the suspect on Saturday and said in a statement on Tuesday that they had arrested 44-year-old Robert Ola.

“Olah is in custody and before the court in other cases,” the report said.

Police said in a statement to CTV News Toronto that they could not comment further on the suspect's charges pending the completion of a parallel investigation.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-808-5500.
