The Manitoba government has announced a $300 rebate on safety equipment

In an effort to strengthen public safety, the Manitoba government has announced a $300 rebate for homeowners and small business owners to purchase security equipment. This was announced by Minister of Justice Matt Wiebe as part of the 2024 budget.

“Everyone should feel safe in their home and community,” Wiebe said. “This concession is a step our government has taken to help build a culture of safety across our province during the election.”

The discount applies to security upgrades such as security cameras, alarm systems, motion detectors, reinforced doors or windows, anti-graffiti film, paint, security gates, roll-down security shutters and permanent security fencing. However, current subscriptions or monthly payments for existing alarm systems are not covered by the discount.

Fort Richmond homeowner Anamika Deb welcomed the news. “Two years ago, a stranger broke into our only car and broke our rear window,” he said. “We installed a flashing doorbell as an added security, but it added to our family's expenses. So this security relief is great news.”

Discount applies to any purchase made after September 1, 2023. The discount application system will be launched this season and applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis. Manitobans who own more than one home or business in the province can only apply for one location. The discount can be applied to multiple expenses for a single property or business under the $300 threshold.
