Firefighters from across the province are rallying for the family of Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Preston Heinbigner, who died by suicide on April 9.

Heinbigner is survived by his pregnant wife and their two-year-old son, the organizer of the GoFundMe page wrote.

Heinbigner's family is scheduled to be at the Legislature Wednesday when lawmakers recognize him. Firefighters join them to support mental health improvements for first responders.



“I can't say”

A Tinder date gone wrong sparked a three-year campaign of harassment that saw an innocent man arrested three times, spend three nights in jail and have to move three times to escape his tormentor, a court heard on Monday.

Jennifer Plantz has pleaded guilty to stalking and assault in connection with more than 20 false complaints she filed with Winnipeg police alleging a man stalked her and sexually assaulted her. On Monday, he was sentenced to a suspended 15-month prison sentence to serve under house arrest.

Manitoba Opera created a whirlwind of love and passion when it presented its first production of Bizet on Saturday night. Carmen Since April 2010.

The three productions, which conclude on Friday, feature a galaxy of Canada's finest opera stars.

Set in Seville, Spain, Bizet's ever-popular opera comique tells the tale of a Roman woman named Carmen, the opera's sweetheart, who falls deeply in love with the officer Don Jose before being swept off her feet by the charming toreador Escamillo.






“I'm really excited to play in front of my friends and family”

The Winnipeg Seabears have signed Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson.

The Winnipegger, who first impressed at Garden City College, has nine years of pro experience with stops in France, Denmark, the Netherlands, Finland, Spain and Portugal.

Ogungbemi-Jackson has seven regular home games left for Winnipeg after terminating his contract in Belarus at the end of March. He signed with the Sea Bears shortly after, but that news was kept under wraps until Monday's announcement.
