Montreal police arrest 45 people after Palestinian protesters sit-in at a bank.

Montreal police arrested 45 people Monday after pro-Palestinian protesters marched at a downtown Montreal bank.

The meeting was held at the Scotiabank on the corner of Sherbrooke and Metcalf Streets. The police were called after the group refused to leave at the bank employee's request.

According to police, people were arrested on charges of mischief under $5,000. All have been released and are expected to appear in court at a later date.

The bank later reopened to the public.

Demonstrations were held around the world on Monday in solidarity with the Palestinian people as part of the international economic blockade.

Protesters targeted the headquarters of Scotiabank in Toronto, and police in Halifax said 21 demonstrators were arrested.

The organizers said that it is necessary to move from symbolic actions to actions that destroy the economy.
