Police seized 53 stolen vehicles at the Port of Montreal

Quebec provincial police and special teams seized 53 stolen vehicles from the port of Montreal.

The Sûreté du Québec announced Tuesday afternoon that 26 containers were searched at the port, leading to a massive seizure.

The police operation was conducted in connection with the export of stolen vehicles, the police said.

A new mixed police squad for vehicle theft, the Escouade régionale mixte vol de vehicules (ERM), was introduced last week and took part in the operation. ERM uses 30 resources from the SQ, the Quebec Municipal Force and the RCMP.

“In addition to SQ and Quebec Municipal Police Force investigators, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were also involved in the search and seizure, while the Service de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Port of Montreal administration worked together,” said the press release.

Full details to come.
