RCMP: East St. Paul crash leads to charges

A 30-year-old Winnipeg man has been arrested on suspicion of causing a truck chase in East St. Paul, Man. last week.

According to RCMP, officers responded to a collision between a Nissan pickup truck and a Dodge Ram 1500 on a Raleigh street on April 10.

Mountie said the trucks were “racing or chasing each other” and moving erratically before the crash.

Five people were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

On Monday, the RCMP released more details about their investigation. They said the two groups met at a pre-arranged time to sell the same item.

“The encounter escalated into a physical altercation between the occupants of both vehicles, resulting in one vehicle chasing the other, causing the crash,” the RCMP said in a news release.

RCMP have charged the driver of the Nissan with four counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing injury to health and assault with a weapon.

He was released pending a future court hearing.

RCMP are continuing to investigate.
