DTS Powered IMAX Enhanced “Queen Rock Montreal” Debuts on Disney+

Following the success of the exclusive IMAX Queen Rock Montreal release, the video will make its global streaming premiere on May 15 on Disney+.

DTS notes that the concert release is the first item of IMAX Enhanced Sound content powered by its technologies, and the announcement of this collaboration was made only on April 14, 2024.

Our commitment to the highest level of audio capture ensures that every moment is recreated with cinematic magic, literally elevating the viewing experience to new audio heights,” explains Sven Mewissen, Director of Product Management at DTS.

The announcement supports IMAX Advanced Certified products

Disney+ subscribers with DTS IMAX Enhanced certified devices will be able to experience the film's dynamic range through a DTS:X immersive audio experience. Queen Rock Montreal offers music fans a glimpse of the legendary band featuring Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon at the peak of their musical powers. The original concerts, held on November 24th and 25th, 1981, were specially arranged for a full-length concert film to document their live show. The film was restored for IMAX by Mercury Studios. Executive producers include Jeff Kempin and Alice Webb for Mercury Studios and Jim Beach and Matilda Beach for Queen Films.

Certified device manufacturers that support IMAX Enhanced sound include Denon, Marantz and JBL, and the company notes that Disney+ is the first major streaming service to offer IMAX Enhanced, giving its subscribers new ways to experience the Marvel Cinematic Universe and other content.
