Poor work planning to blame after Quebec worker hit by car: Health and safety board

The Quebec Board of Health and Safety of Workers (CNESST) concluded that improper planning of work on a public highway put the worker at risk of being hit by a vehicle and resulting in serious injury.

In a report released on Monday, the CNESST identified lack of work planning as the cause of an injury sustained by a worker at a private company in Plessisville on September 6, 2023.

“At the time of the accident, the operating vehicle was not equipped with any signal other than a light bar,” CNESST said in its report.

The worker, who came with another worker, was working on a sewage well along a public highway.

The work truck was parked at the bottom of the work area. It is equipped with a running light bar, and the tail lights are in flashing mode.

The first worker went into the sewer while his colleague put his back into motion and prepared the tools in the truck.

At that time, a worker who was preparing tools was hit by a car and seriously injured.
