Montreal Canadiens and Detroit Red Wings

DETROIT — The Detroit Red Wings will play at Little Caesars Arena for the last time this regular season on Monday night, hoping to keep their playoff hopes alive against the Montreal Canadiens.

With two games left in the regular season, the Red Wings are still in the playoff race. Although they defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-1 on Saturday night, captain Dylan Larkin's overtime goal gave Detroit a 5-4 win.

Despite how rough the last month of the season has been, it's impressive that Detroit is still in contention. However, they need to continue scoring in five of their last seven games. Fortunately, the Wings have been pretty good in the LCA this season, currently 22-13-5 at home coming into their home finals.

Detroit is in a three-way battle with the Washington Capitals and Philadelphia Flyers for the final Wild Card position in the Eastern Conference. The three teams will play their final games on Tuesday evening.

The Canadians don't play much other than being spoilers. Montreal's young players have been out of the playoff race for the past two weeks, despite improving for the 2023-24 season.

The Habs are at the bottom of the Atlantic, two points behind the Ottawa Senators, but nowhere near last in the conference, 10 points ahead of the Columbus Blue Jets.

As this was the third of four meetings between the original six rivals, the Red Wings and Canadiens split the first two matchups, with the road team winning each time.
