Man charged with assault in Calgary dog owner dispute

Calgary police say the suspect left on his own after an argument between two dog owners that resulted in a physical altercation.

A woman was walking her dog at the north end of Sue Higgins Park when a dog belonging to an unidentified man in the park became aggressive toward the woman's dog, police said Wednesday.

Police say the man and woman began arguing and the woman tried to record it on her cell phone, when the man grabbed her phone before pushing her to the ground.

He then physically assaulted her and when she screamed, the man is alleged to have grabbed her phone and thrown her over a fence before running away.

Police said she sought medical attention for her injuries and reported the incident the next day.

On Saturday, police said a 62-year-old man turned himself in and was charged with one count each of assault causing bodily harm and menacing.
