'Fire in the sky:' Canadian family in Israel says it's back to normal after attack

Leah Appel was jolted awake at about 1:45 a.m. Sunday by the sounds and tremors that shook her apartment building in Jerusalem. Iran has launched drones and missiles at targets in Israel. Appel, a Montreal resident who moved to Israel with her husband after the Oct. 7 attack on that country, said the weekend Iranian attack in Canada was like nothing she had ever experienced. No matter what type of vehicle you drive, some insurance companies require vehicle owners to install a tracking device called a “tag” system as a precaution. Some insurance companies offer discounts or cover part of the cost of a tag that costs several hundred dollars.

The immigration debate is too politicized: the business community

The head of a major employers' group says the latest immigration dispute between Quebec and Ottawa is based on politics, not the reality of the labor market. Carl Blackburn, president and CEO of the Conseil du patronat du Québec, said politicians unfairly blame immigrants for housing, kindergarten and teacher shortages, when the real problem is the government's lack of investment in those areas. Blackburn's comments came as Quebec Premier Francois Legault threatened to hold a “referendum” on immigration unless the federal government acted quickly to stem the surge in temporary immigrants, including foreign workers, international students and refugee claimants.
