Vehicle tracking devices in Toronto parking lot: Police

A Montreal man has been charged with installing tracking devices on cars parked at a Toronto mall.

According to the Toronto Police Service, the incident happened on February 10 at around 3:20 p.m. at the Yorkdale Shopping Center at Dufferin Street and Yorkdale Road.

According to investigators, while the defendant was parked, a citizen observed him “kneeling” next to a parked Range Rover. “Azamat informed the guards of the shopping center, who in turn contacted the police,” they said.

A tracking device was found in the Range Rover a short time later, police said. During the further investigation, it was found that the accused connected another monitoring device to the same model car in the parking lot.

The suspect, identified by police as Yannis Demmoush, was arrested at the scene. According to the police, firearms were recovered from them when they were arrested.

Demmush, 26, faces 15 charges in connection with the incident, including two counts of criminal harassment, one count of possession of a loaded, prohibited firearm and one count of failure to comply with orders to release.

The allegations have not been tested in court. Demmush made his first appearance at the Toronto Regional Bail Center on February 11.
