Veronica Butler, 27; and Jillian Kelly, 39, of Hugoton, Kansas, were driving down Oklahoma Road to pick up Butler's children for a birthday party in Kansas on March 30, but never arrived. Their car was later found abandoned on a rural highway in Texas County, Oklahoma, 18 miles south of Elkhart on the Oklahoma-Kansas state line. The district is located 418 km northwest of Oklahoma City.

The Texas County Sheriff's Office requested assistance from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, which said officers immediately suspected foul play based on undisclosed evidence found in the vehicle.

Oklahoma authorities said Saturday that four people were arrested and charged: Thad Burt Cullum, 43; Tiffany Machel Adams, 54; Cole Earl Twombly, 50, and Cora Twombly, 44. All four were charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of kidnapping and two counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

Oklahoma investigators said in a statement that authorities are continuing to search for the victims.
