Disney+ Releases 'Queen Rock Montreal' in Imax Enhanced DTS Sound

“Queen Rock Montreal” will make its global streaming premiere on Disney+ on May 15 as the first concert film with Imax Enhanced sound by DTS.

When it hit theaters in January, the 1981 remake was Imax's biggest exclusive deal yet. It will now debut on Disney+ alongside 18 other Marvel films presented on supported devices with Imax Enhanced sound, Imax senior vice president and head of Imax post and photography Bruce Marko announced during a panel at the NAB Show in Las Vegas on Sunday.

The original concerts featuring Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon took place over two consecutive nights in November 1981 and were specially arranged for a full-length concert film to document their live show. The set includes classics like “Another Bites the Dust,” “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Someone to Love.” It was restored by Mercury Studios for Imax. Executive producers include Jeff Kempin and Alice Webb for Mercury Studios and Jim Beach and Matilda Beach for Queen Films.

Today's announcement is the latest in a long-standing relationship between Imax and Disney Entertainment. Marvel movies with Imax Enhanced sound available at launch include Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Black Panther, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Guardians of the Galaxy (Volumes 2 and 3) . ),” “Black Widow” and “Doctor Strange”.

The announcement also highlights Imax's plans to create and distribute more concert films.
