A fire broke out at St. James Anglican Church in Hudson

A large fire broke out in the central hall of Hudson's St. James Anglican Church early Sunday morning, causing significant damage to the building from the fire and the water used to extinguish it.

Hawkesbury Fire Chief Stefan Brunet, who posted an alert on social media, said several nearby fire departments assisted Hudson firefighters in extinguishing the blaze.

Auxiliary departments: Coteau-du-Lac, L'Île-Perreau, Ste-Marte, Saint-Lazare, Pincourt, Rigaud, Terrace-Vaudreuil and Vaudreuil-Dorion.

Hudson Mayor Chloe Hutchison took to social media to show her support for the church community and Hudson residents as firefighters continued to battle the blaze.

“We have been in contact with the Honorable Sophie Rolland and thanks to her strength and leadership everything remains positive, despite the extent of today's fire, there is every intention to restore what was destroyed and reopen this heritage site. and shared the love of the entire community,” Hutchison said.

“There is no doubt that Reverend Sophie's dedication and ability, as well as the dedicated wardens and engaged community, will see us through this tragedy.”

Brunet said residents in downtown Hudson may have had some discolored water during firefighting operations, but it is safe to drink.

“(It) returns to its normal color shortly after the fire service is over,” Brunet said.
