Calgary-based Joel Tomlinson joined the CTV Morning News team in 2017 — transitioning into local, national and international news, interviews and local reporting duties. He covers topics from the opioid epidemic to food and fashion on the morning news, interviewing big-profile names that descend on Calgary. He is also the host of the much-watched live studio broadcast of the Calgary Stampede every July.

Joel has extensive experience in morning content and one-on-one interviews. Prior to CTV Calgary, she was a reporter, producer, co-anchor and weatherman for Global Saskatoon Morning for four years. Before that, he was a reporter and photographer for the Saskatoon Express.

Joel holds a BA in Journalism from Ryerson University in Toronto. Her work has appeared in the Saskatoon Express, Global Saskatoon and the Huffington Post. He also participated in Ryerson's mentoring program and participated in panels hosted by Mount Royal University in Calgary. She shares with students everything from a career in journalism to personal experiences like adoption and the aftermath of losing her brother to an accidental fentanyl overdose in 2015. It covers many local events, including Canada's 40 Under 40. , LIVERight Gala, District Ventures Demo Day and many charity runs.

Joel graduated from Ryerson University in 2012 with honors and on the Dean's List. Joel was named a 2017 Western Broadcasting Association Leader of Tomorrow.

He speaks English and understands conversational sign language and Spanish.
