Police are investigating the shooting death of a man in the parking lot of a shopping plaza in Dollar-des-Ormeaux, in Montreal's West Island, on Tuesday.

Montreal police (SPVM) say they received several 911 calls before 6 p.m. and responded to Galeries des Sources at the corner of Boulevard des Sources and Boulevard Brunswick.

When police and paramedics arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A source confirmed to CTV News that the victim is 42-year-old Stevens Kantaw.

The man's body was found on the ground in a parking lot outside several nearby businesses, including a Guzzo movie theater, a gym and several restaurants.

Police spokeswoman Jeanne Drouin said investigators were told the man was in a parked car when he opened fire.

The suspect or suspects fled the scene before police arrived.

The investigation is ongoing.
